Importing/exporting settings
« on: October 15, 2008, 03:00:41 am »

I set MC up on my main desktop, got all the cover art, set up the interface, etc hoping there would be a way to get all my settings onto my HTPC but I haven't found a good way yet. Moving the J River folder in my AppData folder didn't work because the path names were different and redefining them imported what MC thought was an entirely separate library so I had duplicated of all files.

I also tried running a Library Server but I ended up with the same problem as above. I got errors "File not found" for my videos and none of the album art could be found. My log window was full of these errors:

Code: [Select]
10/15/08 03:54:08 - Unable to serve cover art, file not found
10/15/08 03:54:08 - Received request for cover art:
10/15/08 03:54:08 - Unable to serve cover art, file not found
10/15/08 03:54:08 - Received request for cover art:

Is there anything I can do to get this to work? It's not a huge deal as all my cover art is still there and copying the J River folder did change the interface - I just have to rebuild my library.

I decided to just start over. It didn't take that long to import everything and updating cover art was easy (Cover Art|Quick find in file / cover art directory). The thing that took the longest was adding keywords to all my movies. :D

I also decided to run a media server on my HTPC and my desktop pc can just connect to that. That way I only have one setup to manage.

This is the only problem I'm having now. When I try to play any of my videos I get this error. I can play audio OK it's just the videos that are giving me a problem. I checked to see if both video and audio was being read from the same location and they are. I don't get any errors on the server side. I can also play the videos from my HTPC. Only when I am connected to the library server running on my HTPC do I get these errors.

That's the errors I get after trying to play the video.

Could a developer at least tell me if this is an issue being addressed or at least being investigated?

Thanks

I am not a developer, but please read my replies in this thread: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=48653.0

Thanks! That might be something I try in the near future.

So from what I gather a solution to this would be to create a true client/server relationship?

I am not sure what you mean by "true client/server relationship", but if you are speaking about the OS level LAN features, you would need to create one or more shared media basefolders on the PC that holds the media files. It's a rather simple task and it can be done on any Windows OS.
