Cover Art keeps appearing...
« on: November 02, 2008, 06:59:59 am »

I've got a bunch of random songs which are single MP3's.
To keep things tidy, I gave them all the album tag 'Collection'

Since they're completely random, I don't want them to have cover art.
However recently this random guy has appeared as the cover art for them.
If I click remove cover art on the album he disappears for a while.
Then sometime later he comes back again.

I've checked the folder and there's no folder.jpg
I've tried removing the cover art and then closing MC to ensure everything was saved.
However still he always comes back a bit later.
How can I get rid of him?!

Try going to Options >Library & Folders and uncheck "Get Cover Art"

Their new cover art engine is aggressive.  This is great for average users because many just don't care about their library being ultra accurate and complete.  It will grab the closest cover art just so you have something.

This also causes major problems for my setup.  But I cope and find ways to disable things.  Even when they're disabled, I suspect some things aren't fully disabled and as soon as I can pinpoint the problem, I'll report on it.  Otherwise, you have to disable a few things in a few areas.  Look through the entire options panel for anything related to cover art.  There are several items.

Ben, you have had cover art problems in the past that weren't related to MC.  MC will use folder.jpg if it's there.

It will do exactly what you tell it to.  If you're concerned, you can run cover art lookup manually in small batches and select the images you want for each album, including none.

If it is disabled, cover art lookup is completely disabled.  Please do not make claims that aren't backed up with facts.

If automatic cover art lookup is enabled, MC will look to see if there is an album of that name and get the cover art if it's available.

As 221bbs pointed out, this auto lookup can be turned on or off.

I had a similar problem recently that was driving me bonkers until I figured it out. Turned out, I thought I had "Also store cover art in file tags" enabled when I didn't. This setting apparently also applies when removing cover art. So I would remove the cover art, and it would be removed from MC's library, but not from the file tags. A few minutes later, auto-import would bring the deleted covers right back again.
