question: comment field behavior
« on: November 07, 2008, 10:58:53 am »

1) I have noticed that podcasts often store a synopsis in the Comment field and that when I hover over the file the Comment field is displayed. This is a nice feature and I am thinking of using Comment for audiobook synopses. I did some tests and Comment is not displayed when I hover over an audiobook file. Is this expected, or a configuration problem, or a bug?

2) If I store an S kb synopsis in all N tracks of an audiobook, does the library size grow by S or S x N ? If the latter I will probably only store in the first track.

Thanks in advance for your help.

<edit>
Sorry, I should have clarified my definition of an audiobook. I store them the same as music albums meaning that I leave Media Sub Type undefined.

I have a similiar question with Description. For one album I have a newspaper article in the Description. How can I see the whole article? I tried one of those views in Theatre View, can't remember the name, and I saw the first couple of paragraphs but couldn't scroll, and I don't usually use TV.

A value will only be stored one time per-field, regardless of how many files use it.

If a value is large enough, it will also be compressed on disk and in memory.

Thanks. Very nice design!

Could I please trouble you to comment on 1) above. Can't use this great feature unless I can figure out how to get the Comment to pop up when hovered over.

Sorry, but tooltips aren't customizable.  Maybe someday.

Thanks.

Just so I am clear, Tooltips for Comments should behave differently with podcasts and non-podcasts?

I am not asking for customization, just want it to work like podcasts.

I was hoping this was a bug and not by design.

Is there any way to change the Edit type of the Comment and Description fields to be "Large" strings rather than "Standard" ones?
When I look at these fields in the "Manage Library Fields" window, the edit options are greyed out.

These two fields, in particular, can be very clumsy to edit using the Standard string mechanism.
