Matt.

I know you must be reading this.

APE. IS the best. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

APE is merely a compression of an existing .WAV file |PLS| header info etc.

How far do you think it will go in the terms of compression ratio.

Also will .APE be able to cope with upcoming formats for audio like 24/96 etc.

What do you think the future holds. CAn you see much interest in other companies using .APE.

Trying to budget for lots of new Hard Disks etc.

cheers.

Thanks for the kind words mikeh.

Don't get your hopes up for much more.  There are lots and lots of lossless compressors, and all of the best ones get compression ratios within a few percent of one another.

Also will .APE be able to cope with upcoming formats for audio like 24/96 etc.

APE works at 24/96, but at this fidelity, lossless compression doesn't make sense, because you're basically compressing a bunch of noise that might as well be discarded. (and it's another argument as to whether 24/96 gives any real world advantage other than creating an uncopyable format again)

What do you think the future holds. CAn you see much interest in other companies using .APE.

I dunno.  Making Monkey's Audio was fun.  I try to keep it at that.

Is Media Jukebox the absolute best program for my APE files

OK, so you didn't ask that, but the answer is still "yes"
