With so much going with all the continuous updates to MC will any effort be made to have MC be used on Linux?

Will this be value added? Consider the user base for Linux and the scarcity of polished applications/media players would it make sense?

Personally, while I appreciate all the new features and polishing going on, I really don't think MC needs more features as it is already the Swiss Army Knife of media players.

Maybe I am the only one....but I think MC will work on Linux via Winetools.

Search the forums... There have been LOTS of previous threads about this (for both Linux and OSX).  You can have limited success with Wine on Linux.

MC is far and away the best player if you have  a large collection of classical music.  I need it and I need JRiver to prosper selling the Windows version. I'd hate to see JRiver get lost in a swamp of Linux support problems.

King Doughnut, I've followed your recent postings about Linux on another forum.  I'd guess that 50-60% of those postings sing the praises of Linux and the rest of your Linux posts describe the trials you have had in getting audio working on Linux.  Why don't you hold your enthusiasm until you more thoroughly understand what you are asking of JRiver?

i tried to get linux (suze) working with my midi controllers, two different audio cards (usb and firewire) and my remote, a while back. i gave up after a 3 weeks fight. i found it interesting to see how enthousiastic some posts were on the linux forums when someone got something working.

I have to admit that Linux IS NOT a OS for the faint hearted, nor one for anyone who is not well versed in Linux code.

It seems that sound is a second or very low priority for most Linux OS's, but this suggestion was not meant to sway JRiver et.al to abandon its support of Windows OS....which I highly doubt it possible.

JRiver is by and far the best media play I have come across so I certainly don't wish them anything but greater success.

FWIW, I learned something today. I knew what "et al." meant, but not it's unabbreviated form. When I saw it was "et alii," my head almost exploded wondering why the need to replace two i's with a period. You know the feeling—sort of like, "Why do I need a pause and a play button?!" Fortunately, I got a grip, read on, and realized the abbreviation conveniently includes the masculine, feminine and plural terms. Phew! Maybe the world hasn't gone insane after all.
