Preparing for ISO image creation ... status display shows no progress

I've got 152 files to burn as mp3 on a CD and it hangs at "Preparing for ISO ..." - will it ever finish? After 10 minutes doing nothing I stopped, restarted MC and tried again ... the same thing.

The status is always "Waiting" while lame is working in background. I left it running overnight and the CD finally finished - so I think its a status display problem only.
