MC13 adds a new EPG -- a list of programs available for television.  You can use it to watch or record.

By the way, USB TV sticks from companies like Pinnacle make it really easy to add digital TV reception to your PC for $60 to $100.  And the picture is excellent.

The EPG is generated from XMLTV.  MC2XML is a good source.  More in our Wiki.

Will there also be an option to grab the EPG directly from the broadcast signal?

That's in MC13, but it isn't as fast.

I still have no idea how to get TV listings using xmltv into MC.  There are tons and tons of text talking about various code things that the average user is not likely to understand NOR will it help the average user install and use it.

Instead of being so overly verbose why not just list some simple steps....ie step 1 download, step 2 run blah.exe or paste to there etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Installation
There is no installer, just unpack the zipfile into a
directory such as C:\xmltv.  If you are reading this you've probably
already done that.
All the different programs are combined into a single executable.  For
example, instead of running 'tv_grab_na --days 2 >na.xml' you would run
c:\xmltv\xmltv.exe tv_grab_na_dd --days 2 --output a.xml
OK BUT RUN IN WHERE??? A command line window, MC, the web or .....??
Apart from the extra 'xmltv.exe' at the front of each command line,
the usage should be the same as the Unix version.  Some programs make
use of a "share" directory.  That directory is assumed be named
"share" at the same location as the exe.  If you just keep everything
where you unzipped it, everything should be fine.  If you must move
xmltv.exe, you may need to specify a --share option with some
programs.
xmltv.exe will try and guess a timezone.  This usually works fine. If
it doesn't, you can set a TZ variable just like on unix.
Just like in unix huh.....well how many end users know UNIX???
My second post in this thread has a link to our wiki.  It's a good place to start.  Take a look at mc2xml.
mc2xml setup:
   1. Run mc2xml with both the -c and -g parameters to set your location
          * -t is optional, and only works for US zipcodes
          * -U is required for languages that have non ISO-8859-1 characters
   2. Select listings number from the returned list
Run From Where [cmd window?, MC?, windows start?, the web?.....
I take it I need to run this script [mc2xml -c us -g 20006 -t] somewhere so that it can
prompt me for a zip code and download a dat file.
Examples for mc2xml setup:
    * US: mc2xml -c us -g 20006
    * US: mc2xml -c us -g 20006 -t
Run it from the command prompt.  The first time it asks a few questions.  After that, it uses the answers, stored in a data file in the same directory.
Try a DIR.  It looks like mc2xml isn't in that directory.  Try reading their directions more closely.
Ok....I think I have it....only now I have to link each channel separately from the xml file to mc.  Hope i won't have to do that every time I update the file.
Thank You for your help!
In my area, Schedules Direct is the only providor with a complete listing of all OTA digital broadcasting, so I subscribed.  When I attempt to use MC13 to get the scheduling info, it no longer prompts me for info, just runs XMLTV with previous settings.  I deleted the info in the XMLTV directory, but it seems to be storing the zip-code/country and service # info elsewhere.  I have been able to run it manually with the Schedules Direct info and manually import the file into MC13.  Other than using the reset button to wipe the scheduling data in MC, I don't see a way to completely clear it of previously entered info.  Does it copy something to the MC program directory that I need to delete?
Also, once I have this figured out, is there a way to configure MC with my Schedules Direct login info?  Currently, it's included in the command line that I type, but I didn't see a provision for this in MC...
It's "No. 4".  It's on the Third Party board here.
