Something in Media Center is eating my disc bandwidth
« on: January 11, 2009, 12:40:46 pm »

MC 12 & 13.

Playing a song and just stops playing, waits a minute while MC is unresponsive and then skips to the next song. If I play the same song in VLC it plays fine from beginning to end. If I play the song in VLC AND start up MC13 the song playing in VLC stops playing.

So what is it that MC 12 & 13 both do to use up so much disc bandwidth that I can't play a single song all the way through while these apps are running. I do not have build thumbnails turned on.

The music is on a NAS device called a DroboShare.

Try switching playback between DirectSound and Wave Out.

Any plug-ins running?

What filetypes?

Does a local library work?
