Directshow filter cleanup?
« on: January 22, 2009, 07:38:17 pm »

In lieu of a host of uninstalls which may/may-not be comprehensive in removing old and potentially conflicting codecs currently on a PC, is there a tool to magically do it for you, creating a "clean slate"?

I've been reading the 'wiki' and would like to start over, doing it correctly.  Problem is, I don't remember what I installed, when...

Format and reinstall Windows

<sigh>  Was afraid that might be the answer.  I've done it many times... just don't want to go through all that right now.

Is there a tool to LIST all the filters, etc.?

CCCP makes a nice tool called Insurgent that can be used (under a careful eye) to clean up ugly filter installs.  You might want to check around on their site: http://www.cccp-project.net/

Ask for help in the forums over there if you need it.  They're incredibly helpful, so long as you read the FAQ and follow the instructions.

I moved the format and reinstall OS discussion to a new thread.
