Refresh Library: Check For Deleted Files...?
« on: February 09, 2009, 04:32:30 pm »

When I delete a file outside of MC13, it continues to appear in the MC library until I manually delete it within MC, or try to play it and receive a 'file not found' alert.  Until I delete them, I receive several 'tagging error' alert boxes for the files MC can't 'find'.  It hasn't been an issue before, but I just deleted a few hundred file using Windows file management

I've tried to find an option to 'refresh the library' and check for deleted files, but can't.  Is there a way?

Make sure you have auto-import enabled in Options > Library.

Then double-check the setting for removing broken links, also in Options > Library.

Thanks -- I checked the settings, there were already as you pointed out -- except the Broken Links was set to Yes-Protect Network Files (not sure what that's for) so I changed it to just 'yes'.

Maybe I need to reset something, as I'm still getting tag errors on files that are gone -- though the files are no longer in the library.

After changing the settings, run auto-import manually from the menu:
Tools > Run Auto-Import Now

It should get rid of any missing files, and give you a report at the end.

I use a Smartlist to locate these files.  [=IsMissing([Filename])]=1  is the formula.  You could modify the formula for explicit one type of file.  I prefer not to, because, sometimes pictures get renamed, and reimported und it is really difficult to find the problem library records.  The list will be filled with the missing files, so you get a chance to see, what is missing, and if everything is fine, you can remove them from the library.

I don't use Auto Import, because "I" like to decide, when to import.

Hope it helps.

I prefer the other way...  Glad you found a way that works for you though...

I occasionally import some pictures to put up on Pix01 and then delete them from the hard drive. I don't have Auto-Import watching any folders so it won't do any imports but it's nice to run to fix the broken links quickly.
