CD drive spin-up before playing new track
« on: February 13, 2009, 02:46:31 am »

Hi,

I'm new to MC13 and I also want to use it to play normal audio discs as well.
Everything is working fine but at the end of each track the CD drive spins up to full speed.  :o
After starting the new track it's back to normal again.

This is quite annoying because it's very noisy.
I tried Windows Media Player (Vista) and it does the same.
But WinAmp and all other applications I'm using for playing video are working fine.
The drive is a LG GGC-H20L

I tried Nero DriveSpeed but it didn't work.
Is there anything else I can do or is there a setting in MC13?

I'm not seeing a spin-up at track boundaries for sequential tracks.  If I seek to a random track, sometimes it does spin up.  Maybe this varies by drive.

We'll see if there's anything we can do.

Hi,

I have the same problem. Nero DriveSpeed initially works, but as soon as the track changes to a new one, Media Center seems to reset the read speed to maximum. Going back to DriveSpeed and changing to a higher speed and back to a lower resets the speed back to the lower speed and the disc become silent. Next track the drive spins up again and I must manually set it back to lower speed.

This is very annoying and I will consider another media player if this is not solved.

System:
Windows Vista 64-bit
Media Center 13.0.171
Nero DriveSpeed

Kind regards,
Johan

PS.
The last year or two - experiencing new major releases a bit too often - I would appreciate if the J River Media Center team focused on the quality of existing function and compliance to OS and other software (there are glitches you should know by now which is not only Microsoft's fault) instead of packing it full of new features.

FYI, I also tried with AnyDVD. Same behaviour as with Nero Drive Speed - Media Center takes control and not in the way you would prefer...

I experience the very same behaviour and indeed it is very annoying when playing CD on silent HTPC -> I would very much appreciate if you JRiver guys could do something about it.

Vista Enterprise 64-bit SP1
MC 13.0.171
Nero DriveSpeed 3.0.11.2
LG GGC-H20L Blu-ray/HD-DVD/DVD-RW drive (firmware 1.03)
