When you have a cover hovered over in 3D View, and zoom out, it goes pixally too quickly and as a result looks bad.
Could it not be kept high quality for the image that's hovered?

Also could typing not be entered directly into the search - making the view more useful?

I agree with you.  Especially since it's already done the work to load the high resolution image, it might as well be more relaxed about unloading them.
