Media Key Mode option is broken
« on: March 15, 2009, 12:29:50 am »

Options -> General -> Advanced -> Media Key Mode

This option no longer appears to have any effect when used in conjunction with my MS remote. I used to rely on this to allow my remote buttons (PLAY, STOP, whatever) to behave differently depending on what application is in focus. I was able to achieve this by setting Media Key Mode to "App Commands" but even set to "Disabled", MC is intercepting and acting on RC keypresses when it's NOT the app in focus.

Could this be looked at please? Like I said, I really rely on this one.

Using XP SP3.

Cheers.

MCE remote buttons like the Green button will be caught anytime Media Center is running.

Oh dear. Things are going from bad to worse for me lately.  :'(

Well ok. If that's how it's gonna remain then this option is now redundant.

The media key handling option was really only intended for keyboards.  I guess the line is blurry since an MCE remote is half keyboard, half special remote.

What MCE remote option(s) are you looking for?

I'd like to be able to utilize the remote's playback buttons in different apps while MC is still running in the background. I can provide specific examples if neccessary but basically I have a requirement for PLAY, NEXT/PREV TRACK, FF/REW and STOP to be app specific based on which app has the focus. I was achieving this thru a combination of my remote mapping software and the media key mode option "app commands".

Cheers.

Hi Matt. I understand that the MC remote is not strictly a keyboard but since the "line is blurry" any chance of some help with this please? It's really causing me some grief and I can't find a suitable workaround. Basically, all I need is for the "App Commands" Media Key Mode option to do what it used to: prevent MC intercepting MS remote commands unless it is the application in focus.

Thanks in advance.

It's on the list.  It may be a couple weeks.  Feel free to remind us.

Ralf,

What about using something else to receive the commands and then send them to the correct application based on which has focus?

I use Girder to do this, but there are other (and cheaper) options out there I'm sure.

Although having said that, I pretty much use MC for everything except TV recording so don't tend to have the problem that much now.... but I guess it will be back again when I start getting some blu-ray dicss :).

I'm already doing this. The problem is that MC is also acting on the commands and I can't stop that - even when it's not in focus! The particular option above used to overcome that problem.

You won't have this issue unless you're using the MS remote.
