Hi

Have not been able to use the "Hauppage WinTV-7164" built in TV device with Windows Vista. It works fine with the software supplied from Hauppage but makes Media center 13.0.140 and earlier versions crash with C++ runtime error.

If the tuning is started for analog channels it displays "Starting Channel Scan" without any progress but operation can be cancelled.

The PCI board contains the following four receivers:
  • Hauppage WinTV-7164 Analog Capture
  • Hauppage WinTV-7164 Analog 1 Capture
  • Hauppage WinTV-7164 DVBT Tuner (digital)
  • Hauppage WinTV-7164 DVBT 1 Tuner (digital)

Any ideas how to fix?

What do you do to produce the crash (clicking Configure button, tuning to a channel, scanning for channels, digital or analog etc.)?

When "configure" is klicked for the analog tuner the Media Center application pops up a C++ message that it needs to close. The configure for the digital receiver works without unexpected termination.

The crash is likely fixed in an upcoming build.  What caused the device to initialize incorrectly is another matter.  Please attach a log file here, or email it to me.

Sorry for delayed response.  I did not realize that the log was sent to my PM, instead of my email.

Anyway, your log file does not contain a single TV related line.  If you get a crash, and restart MC, you need to send "Previous Log.txt", instead of Log.txt.  Also make sure TV logging type is turned on.

Thanks

I have sent you a new logfile without restart in your PM.

Just to keep the thread up to date. Created and sent a new logfile using a debug DLL from Yaobing

The problem is solved in an upcoming build (build 145 or later).

The following are my answers to tofo's questions sent to me via email:

Technically it all works fine but the channel list and recording schedule
does not feel jriver style.

1.
If I scan the scahnnels of the second analog cable TV source no
additional channels are added to the total channel list. If I tune the
same channel differently in the two boards are they then considered the
same channel? Are the merged in some way or is the channel list just a
channel numer selector and then fetches the channel number from any
device being free to switch to that channel number?

We only distinguish input source types (antenna vs. cable vs. ATSC/DVB-T), but not different cable companies.  Therefore all cable channels will be grouped together.  Does anyone really need to use different cable companies simultaneously?

2.
In the "edit channel" list there is no indication the channel number are
tuned and available from two different sources.

No there is not.

3.
An ongoing recording is not shown in any list or indicated in the chanel
list. Only when recording canceled or completed it shows in the
recordings list. The only way to find out if a recording is going on is
to select a channel and the "cancel recording" button is shown.

It is shown on the EPG list - there is an icon indicating a program is being recorded.

4.
The time of recording set in the "main menu" is not reflected in the
dialog when you click the record button.

I do not understand this statement.  Please clarify.

5.
If I add a channel to favorites the is little recording options on the
right click popup of the channel

Favorite channels are used as a way of letting people select channels faster using Next / Previous buttons.

6. Can I watch two channels at the same time in two separate detached
screens?

Yes.  Use two different zones.

And so on..

The full power of the two recording sources have not yet emerged to me.

You can use two tuner devices to record two different programs simultaneously.  The devices can be connected to different or the same sources.  The only thing we do not do is to distinguish "Channel 2" of cable company A from "Channel 2" of cable company B.
