Help Needed: ASIO Works in MC12 but Not MC13
« on: March 22, 2009, 02:56:20 pm »

I know this will sound weak.  I've tried reading wikis and docs, I've experimented with driver & system settings.  Nothing seems to work.  So, I need to ask for some help.

Here're my key symptoms:
* MC12 ASIO playback is fine
* MC13 ASIO playback stopped working some time ago (I don't recall when)
* I can't get ASIO working in MC13 latest releases[/li][/list]

Here's what I've done:
* ensured all windows sounds are disabled
* uninstalled my audio drivers, reinstalled the latest versions
* made sure I'm using the latest version of ASIO4ALL
* rebooted, tried other MC13 audio output modes (everything but ASIO works)
* compared playback settings between MC12 & MC13, MC12 works & MC13 just won't

My system configuration is:
CPU:                  Intel QX9770
Motherboard:     ABit IP35 Pro
RAM:                 4GB
Video:                NVidia 8600GTS
Boot Drive:         250GB SATA
Removable:        PATA DVD RW
O/S:                  Vista Ultimate/(32bit)
Audio Driver:      RealTek v6.0.1.5809 (3/12/2009)
Realtek Audio Sample Rates:  44.1, 48.0, 88.2, 96.0, 192.0KHz (All work)
Realtek Shared Mode Format:  (2 channel, 16bit, 48000Hz)
ASIO Version:     2.9 (English)
MC ASIO Setup:  channel=0
Audio Output:     Optical

As far as I can remember, ASIO stopped working after I installed some video playback features to allow playback of a DVD movie through MC13.  (I think the utility I installed was CCCP, but I can't even find the features in MC13 I was working with.)  The next time I tried to play audio ASIO wasn't working.

Obviously, this is a geek-only problem.  I could use any other output format, or just return to MC12.  But this something that just won't function & that's bothering me.  I know there are other audio perfectionists out there, so I'm appealing to you all for help.

Thanks!

Double-check DSP Studio settings to make sure it's not converting to 5.1 or similar.

For what it's worth, ASIO is working fine for me in MC 13 here.

also double check if asio4all is not sending its signal to the wrong channels. does the realtek have its own asio drivers? try those when so..

you said it happened after installing some video stuff. could it be that the asio channels have been kidnapped by them..

im also using asio with last mc version without a problem..

Hi Matt,

everything in DSP_Studio is set to defaults (source bitdepth & source number of channels) and matches the setup in MC12.

The more I think about when this started, the more likely it seems that it was related to trying to play back a movie and had to modify the DirectShow settings in MC13.  This was long enough ago that I don't recall what to try to undo.  I do know that movie playback is working OK now (only ASIO audio playback is broken).

Is there some way to force MC13 back to it's default state?

Hi Gab,

I've tried telling MC13 to assign ASIO audio to channels 0, 2, 4, 6, & 8.  MC12 on the exact same system is working with ASIO on channel=0.

I do think that one of the DirectShow settings may be having some effect on ASIO audio playback.  I've tried changing them, and now MC13 is giving me errors about DVD playback not being configured correctly...  So I've probably created a new set of problems.

Do you have any suggestions for what "safe" settings should be for DVD playback settings should be?

Thank you!

DirectShow settings should not be relevant if you're using the JRiver audio engine with a native plugin. (APE, MP3, etc.)

The playback method is configurable in Options > File Types with version 13.

ASIO is working with MC13 using Vista 64 and a Lynx AES16 card.  AES into my processor.

Yes, I have no doubt that ASIO works with MC13.  It used to work for me, and I can use ASIO on the same machine with MC12.

Something has happened to my MC13 options configuration that is preventing ASIO from working.  My problem does not seem to be caused by the ASIO channel being used.  (MC12 is using channel=0 successfully, MC13 produces no audio for channels 0, 2, 4, & 6.  I do get badly digitally distorted audio if I select ASIO channel=8).

I'll check on Matt's suggestion on options-->File Types this evening.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
