Exiting DVD in theatre view crashes MC
« on: March 21, 2009, 02:37:24 pm »

I tried playing a DVD in MC.  The DVD plays OK but when I'm using Theatre View and a Windows MCE remote, when I press the "back arrow" key to exit the DVD to the main menu, MC crashes.  If I press the "stop" button (the little square) the DVD stops playing and the name of the DVD appears in a list of one item.  The "back arrow" works from there (bringing up the main Theatre View menu).  If instead I try to play it again, only the audio plays.  The navigation keys will not move the selected item to the top menu bar items like they will in other lists.

On another DVD, I was not able to select the "Play movie" selection from the DVD's main menu with the remote.  The highlighted choice would momentarily move off the one it was on, but would then instantly move back.  I was able to select it with the mouse.

A related question (and possibly the answer to the above?) is the following.  Windows has another application that by default tries to play a DVD when inserted.  I have to let it start and then kill it before I can play the DVD in MC.  How do I change this in Windows?  I know this is a Windows question, not MC, but poking around in Windows help has not produced the answer.

I think you'll find that the back button is pausing the dvd. MC is not crashing. The fact you can navigate the interface when this occurs confirms that MC has NOT crashed. This "pause on back" behaviour was introduced recently (I assume you're using the latest build?).

Your mouse is probably doing this. Either unplug it or push the pointer to the far edge of the screen when not in use.

Autoplay. You can configure MC to be the app that plays your DVD. Goto Tools > Options > CD & DVD > Autoplay

MC is definitely crashing.  The Theatre View exits and I get a Windows window that says MC has encountered an error and has to close.  When I click on the "OK" (with the mouse) I can then restart MC.  I get a message that says something about it having exited abnormally the last time.

In case this is confusion about which button, I am speaking of the left arrow key that's to the left of the group of four left-up-right-down pointing triangle symbols (with the OK in the middle) about 1/3 of the way down on the MCE remote.

I'm running version 140.  I'm not sure if I was still using version 132 when I tried this.  I see there's a version 143 now, which I will load when I can.

This is set to "ask every time".  I have never seen it ask anything about the DVD.  Are you suggesting that it should be set to "Play"?

In Tools/Options/Theater View/Advanced, unselect "High Quality Drawing" and set the frame rate down to a lower number.  If that helps, it may be a video driver problem.
