I am very confused with tags
« on: July 17, 2002, 11:27:19 am »

If i tag inside MJ,putting artist name or changing it or getting infos from cddb, putting year, genre

Do this are 'Mj inside only tags' or 'general tags" ?

If i burn a cd with mp3 on it do the tags i put will be in the mp3?
And do any player[software player i mean] will read it?

All this questions because it looks like that tags i do inside MJ do not appear in RealJukebox

Listening to: 'Rien à dire' from 'Marie et les Garçons' by 'Marie et les Garçons' on Media Jukebox

what does the ID3v1 tag look like?
what does the ID3v2 tag look like?

What One Is MJ Reading?
What One Is Real Reading?

you may need to use Dr Tag Or Helium to Read Indiv Tags.

King ,i do not know.I did this cds long ago for my brother

My brother is in France, he does not speak english. So no way to use MJ for him
We had MusicMatch or RealJukebox to choose

I dislike MM and ,last summer i was still a RealJukebox user.So it was RealJukebox install on his computer

But i am sure that the tags i did for israelis cds -when you get unknow from cddb- are not show when he plays the cds.
I did tags in english, not in hebrew

Concerning ID3v1 ,and v2,where i find them?

I am just lost with all the tag deal.Look like i need to find a site and read it until i understand.
I am even more lost with cddb: got 'unknow' with MJ and infos with RJ or WMP for the same cd.Look like cddb one gives more results, there is not logic

zevele

if you used MusicMatch i think from version 2-5 you may have other problems.

musicmatch did not use the standard taging system we use today (id3v1 and id3v2). they used there own. and sometimes this info will show up in MJ and other tagers.

changing it exit and come back to it and it seems the tag has not updated.

and i am sure thats what is going on.

King

RealJukebox,not MM

I burned a cd in MJ
import to RJ=tags ok
change tags in RJ
import in MJ=new tags in MJ
change tags in MJ
import in RJ=no good, only few songs have the new tags
import in WMP=ok

I changed the tags many times.Changing artist,album,year,genre

All the times the same problem with RJ,a RJ problem i think,so no need to try to find out

If only the LAZZY JRiver staff would put out help files in more than one language,i would have a very easier life.
Will just put MJ 7 on family computers with my key, send cash to JRiver.
And would have anyone using the same jukebox

OK
But if you use ID3v1,you cannot use 'replay gain'?

i am right or again i do not understand?

If you keep your music on your computer and use only MJ,do the ID3v2 suck as well?

Zevele and Sparta,

It is a very frustrating process, but understanding ID3 is one of the keys to getting the most out of your music collection. I don't claim to be a master at it, but I do know a little, as well as where to look for what I don't know.

For an intro and overview, go to www.id3.org.

Also, the documentation for MJ has good info on how they implement ID3 and the configuration options available to you.

Let me not speak for the MJ folks, but MJ can use a combination of ID3 info as well as their own "tagging" information.

To answer your question Zevele, you are correct; use of replay gain is not possible if you use ID3v1. Use ID3v1 only as a last resort...

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Traveler
I will be a traveler in one week time,so no time to learn tags now.

My only urgent question is:

I have a mp3cd discman without tags reading, only a number for album and a number for songs
I only burn full albums so i have this kind of player on purpose
I want to burn mp3cds.Do the ID3v2 tags a problem for my walkman to read the cds?
If yes,can i set to'do not import tags' when burning.

Do not know if burn is correct to use in this case,so let say i want to do data cds with mp3 on it

I DON'T THINK THIS IS TRUE

I only use ID3v1.1 and also have scanned my files with MJ's replay gain.
