Classical Music CD Recommendations
« on: April 15, 2009, 05:06:23 pm »

A few days ago i rented a cat car and the radio station was set to a classical music station, been a few days and I haven't changed the channel once. I only own a few classical music CDs but now I want to expand my collection with some good and CLEAR recordings. If anyone wants to link me to some good music at amazon or towers it would be much appreciated.

Here's an old thread about music your cat might like:

I think you would need to specify something to get reasonable answers. The classical genre is huge. As well you could ask people to recommend good and clear popular music.

What would you like to have? For instance:
Symphonies (played by big orchestras), chamber music, solo instruments, opera or perhaps choir?
Modern or from some period?
Any specific composers, conductors, singers, instruments (violin, piano, harpsichord, wind instruments, organ, etc)?

I'm pretty open to any classical music at this point. But the problem for me at this point is finding clear/good recordings by myself.
Example:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000003EUG/npr-2-20/

This is #2 on the NPR list (from the thread JimH provided) of must have. But when I listened to the sample I hear the hissing in the background. This would pretty much destroy my enjoyment of the music. Of course the hissing might be due to the low bit rate of the sample. Maybe after a few year I'll learn to appreciate the older recordings but I'm just a beginner ;D

I'm also looking into the classical crossover genre like Bond

and Vanessa-Mae

Some of the recordings on the NPR list are older recordings from the days of tape and analog.  Those recordings are going to have tape hiss.

You can treat the NPR list as a list of recommended works rather than recommended recordings.  Search Amazon for those works and look for modern digital recordings that get good reviews.  You should do OK with that.
