TV probs/Kworld pci 120s --- Solved
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:42:36 am »

Hi Yaobing

How have you been ?

Are you ready for some headaches ?

 ;D

Prob. 1:

Std. view/Play a chan./dbl ck to go back to std view

close MC/TV stops but MC is still there.

close MC again and MC closes with hang.

(Log=1chanclose)

Prob. 2:

Std view/play a chan. and everything is good

play another chan. and everything is OK

now play something from your audio library

all sound is lost everywhere.

and then when you close MC you get the crash above.

(Log=std view audiohang)

Prob. 3:

Maybe something sim. to rjm prob.?

I always have Time-shifting OFF.

So whenever I go to record a prog., MC goes to never never land when I try to end it.

Even though the OSD says recording is off, I notice on the rt ck menu a option to "cancel time-shifting" ?

If I cancel time-shifting then reality is back, but no audio.

If we could fix prob. 1 and 2, I can probably work around No. 3.

Theater view has same prob.
Using latest beta build.
Tried diff. codes/ren/ect
Will send logs and filters in a couple min. (Logs at JRiver)

Maybe you can see something, Im not seeing.

Thanks for your help.

Oh, bytheway, Do you still have that Kworld stick?

If so , do you see these prob. with it ?

It will take a while for me to sift through the log files.  I can answer your last question though.  My Kworld PlusTV stick still works - no problems similar to what you reported.  It has a very poor ATSC reception as compared with some other PCI/PCIe devices.

One oddity I found in these logs is that Cyberlink Audio decoder was selected by you, but MC could not make use of it.  MC loaded FFDShow Audio decoder instead, but the unusable cyberlink decoder was not removed.  That COULD be the cause of all the trouble.  To verify this, please try de-selecting CyberLink Audio Decode (PDVD7.x), and selecting FFDShow instead.

The Cyberlink audio decoder could be the culprit again.  But there maybe something more.

Hi Yaobing

Sorry, I got busy with some other things.

But:

Yes, I was playing around with codes and forgot to remove it. (Trying to get this working)

Quote

Yes, I notice this too.

There is no change with FFDShow (Which I use all the time), same probs.

I tried a newer ver of FFDShow and newer audio drivers and no diff.

I also have a Encore stick that I got out and tried (another BDA)

Same probs. with it and MC/TV.

?

Thanks for your help

Did this problem occur in recent builds, or has been there in all builds of MC13?

The only thing I notice when switching video to display window by double-clicking is that sometimes it takes a couple of seconds to settle down (the video appears to be frozen for a couple of seconds).  It never really hang.

Befor build 133

But I will nail it down for you. (Just give me some time)

I believe I commented on some of this in the Beta end and sent logs.

But I didnt harp on this, since you had other people bugging you big time.

On a side note:

Connected a spare drive to the test mach. / loaded Vista32/ sp1/ and ATI and Conexant drvs.

No ffdshow.

And ran Mc/ No diff.

Loaded FFDshow, no diff.

So I went back to my reg. drv with all MC13 TV prob. and loaded MC12 build 533

Darn, I was in Heaven again.

It was so fast/ changing chan/ recording/ ect.

NO Problems.

I know I ask you about your  K-stick

But I remember, I bought the 120 because you had the stick

But From what I remember there were some diffs.

The 120 there were probs., but you made a change for someones else card and my 120 started working.

I reiterated this to you and you made another change and it worked perfect.

Soooooooo

O/T

Whens your next trip to China ?

Are you going to take me ?

Did you load FFDShow audio decoder only, or tried FFDShow video decoder?  If you did not try specifically configure MC to use a video decoder, please try it.  Choose a video decoder that is not 'CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7)'.

I found some clue (but unfortunately I am unsure of a solution yet).  This could be caused by 'CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7)' misbehaving.

Vista Home Premium comes with Microsoft MPEG-2 Video decoder, which works great.  If you do not have it, you can try FFDShow, making sure you turn its MPEG-2 decoding on.  Other options are MPV video decoder that is part of CCCP, or DScaler MPEG-2 Video decoder.

Please try one of these just to verify if the problem still exists.  I will make some changes which I hope will fix the crash even with misbehaving filters.

Please send me a log on this one too.

Did you start recording after you started playing (i.e. not using EPG to schedule a recording)?
Did you end recording also using right-click menu or OSD menu?

Canceling recording does not cancel time-shifting.  By default, start in time-shifting mode is on, so it makes sense to leave time-shifting on when recording is stopped.  I am not sure if it is necessary to make it more consistent by returning to non-time-shifting mode if you started out not time-shifting.

Theater view has same prob.
Using latest beta build.
Tried diff. codes/ren/ect

I forgot about this.  If you already tried different video decoder, then Cyberlink video decoder is not to blame.  I used Cyberlink decoder on a previous computer (but not the PowerDVD7 version) without any problems.  That leaves two possibilities:  the sound card, and the PCI 120 itself.  If it is the latter, switching filters obviously will not help much.  Problem in the sound card is hard to figure out too, unless you have multiple sound cards on the computer.

The key was this line:

I turned it on in TV/Options (even though I dont use it) and everything looks good so far.
