Remote Control Extender
« on: May 12, 2009, 08:22:49 am »

In the last month, I've bought a couple of sets of Philips Remote Control Extenders.  They cost about $50 per set.  I got them from MicroCenter.

Each set has two IR components.  They talk via radio.  They're set up like this:

IR receiver in a position where you can see it with your remote, and a
           V
Radio connection to:
           V
IR transmitter in a location where it can see one of the devices you want to control.

By doing this, you can relay an IR signal from any spot you can see from your couch to any component up to 100 feet away.

The transmitter also supports a cable with two fingernail sized IR transmitters (blasters) that can be taped to the IR receivers of two additional components.

So you can point your remote to the receiver next to your TV, and it can relay the signal to an AV Receiver and a PC in a closed cabinet, or even on another floor.

This may sound complicated, but it's easy to set up and it works great.

They are each about a 2 inch cube.
