MC13 crashing with Cav66

I run JRiver Media Center on a PC pretty much dedicated to serving up wholehouse audio in my home.  I was running MC11 on an older XP Professional box, running an M-Audio card to stream 4 simultaneous zones (at max).  It did work fairly well.

BUT, every now and then (once every 2-3 weeks maybe?) I would find my wholehouse audio not working.  I'd check the PC, and MC had crashed.  I would confirm the error, re-launch MC, and it would be fine again (until the next time).

I recently upgraded to MC13 and installed on new hardware (Windows Server 2008 64-Bit), then imported my backed up libraries.  I was hoping that between the new hardware and upgrade to MC13 my crash issues would be gone, but sure enough they are still happening at about the same frequency.

What things usually cause MC13 to crash?  What can I do to improve reliability?  Could it be a corrupt audio file?  Any logs or other troubleshooting methods that might help me track this issue down?

It could be a corrupt file.  We've seen a few problems recently with MP3 files with bad headers.

Turn on logging and read the end of the log.  More in the link called "stability" in my signature.

Try renaming this file:
Opening: M:\The Beatles\Folder.jpg
to
folder.tmp

But it may be the file before.

If you find the problem file, save it.

OK.  For the record, I deleted that file. 

The next to last file listed in the log is M:\The Beatles\The Beatles - I'm Down (Demo).mp3.  I'll leave that file there for now.

I'll watch for the next crash and post back my findings.

The first log shows a crash, but in a place I've never seen a crash before.

Does the second log contain "program crashing" in it anywhere?  If so, could you post the portion of the log around that text?

This is a tricky one to test anything on since it takes two weeks for the problem to show up.

Is anything else happening on the computer around the time of the crash that provide some clues?  Also, how does the memory, handle, etc. usage look in task manager after that long?  A slow leak could explain this if eventually it hit a resource wall.  Are you running any third-party plugins?

No, no "program crashing" anywhere in this log. 

No 3rd party plug-ins, but I do run CAV66.EXE to control JRiver through my Russound wholehouse audio system. 

Nothing much else running on this PC, no anti-virus, etc.

I will check the resource monitor more closely next time the crash occurs.

Am running the latest CAV66.EXE.  Since I only use JRiver through my Russound, it would be tough for me to run for weeks (or months) without CAV66.EXE.

No other users of CAV66.EXE, that I'm aware of, are reporting issues. 

I'll post back if I find out more.

I have a Vista 64 setup with CAV66.exe and MC13.  Once and a while I will get app error with MC but it is almost always upon start up and not after it has been up for a while.  Which build of MC13 are you running?

As a work around you could make MC13 a service in Server and that way anytime it stopped you could set it to automatically restart the program.  You would want CAV66 to be a dependent service so it would restart too since it is programed to shut down if it see MC is not running.  May sound like a pain if you do not know server very well but it is easy to set up.

Had another crash last night.  No "crash" reported in the log.  Confirmed the error, relaunched MC13, and it's fine again.

Running 13.0.171.  Noticed a new build last night, so I will upgrade.

I don't know anything about the "Server" portion of MC13.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

There have been some bad files lately that have caused problems.  You might see if it happens with certain files.

Turn off audio analysis for a while to see if that's where it's crashing.

I don't see a crash above.  It would have been in the "previous" log.

Yes, I've been posting logs and info here to try and determine if there's a consistency to it.  I haven't noticed it being a particular file.  If a crash occurs, since MC13 stops, wouldn't the crash be in the most current log?  Why would it be in the previous log?

Can you tell me how to disable audio analysis?

Actually, I found the option under the "Auto Import" settings.  It was already disabled.
