Try switching MC options for Playback between Direct Sound and Wave Out.  See also options for playback.

More information about what you're doing would help.

playing  any of 500gb of personal music on my internal hard drive.
thats all. no other programs working. i am also having difficulty because the program freezes & "program not responding" occurs atleast a few times a day.
then it promps me to disable 3rd party...back up files........etc...
my music can play with no inturruption the it just goes buggy.
does this sound like a driver issue?
thanks for your reply

Try this thread for ideas:

You may have a hardware problem.  Disk drive in PIO instead of DMA, for example.

My guess is your thumbnails might not be built.

To test this theory, just remove the Image (small thumbnail) column for Playing Now.

How do you do that ?

on the main menu, View->Customise View

Look at the centre of the dialog that pops up and has a list with the title 'columns to show'

Select the above field and then click remove button and then OK.

Then tell us whether it made any difference or not.

thanks for the advice. i haven't had the problems in about 1 1/2 days.
my assumption is that you might be right-because after the auto import (thumbnails building during this- over 50,0000 songs) completed last time, Ive been free of problems. but, im holding my breath.
if it happens again-i will surely remove the column of thumbnails.
i will update later. thanks again. j

If your thumbs are already built then removing the mentioned column will not serve any purpose.

thanks for your reply. it must have been the thumbnails-because i havent had any further problems after they were built.
i appreciate the knowledge & advice given. j
