Playback .mkv files
« on: June 06, 2009, 04:44:26 am »

By default MC13 does not playback .mkv files (at least not with me)
I need to install a codec pack.

Question:
I donot want to install a full codec-pack like cccp/k-lite etc.  (I only want to playback .mkv)
What minimum codec is required to playback mkv-files.

After some searching on Internet  I found that FFDShow shd be installed (after install still the mkv file did not show anything)
only after installing Haali Media Splitter and associating again .mkv to Media Center  the mkv file played well.

Is this the only way?  Or are there are there better alternatives/solutions ?

This is the best way.

1. The filters work well.
2. They are free.
3. They get updated frequently.

Actually, CCCP does not include much more than Haali/FFDShow.  You might as well install CCCP, to get the functionality of VSFilter (for subtitles in mkv and other files).

Thank you!
At first I had no subtitles, but simply selecting Subtitles in ffdshow video decoder configuration solved this.
Under "Options" -> File Types - > Video   -> Media Container (mkv, ogm) it now says NO under File Association
and "JRiver video engine (using DirectShow ..etc)

Again, thanks.
