Tremote set-up question
« on: June 12, 2009, 12:40:04 pm »

Hello,

I have returned to MC14 after a brief play with Foobar. Have to say I am impressed with the development going on with MC14 - it's a joy to use!

I am interested in the Tremote function which I believe would allow me to control my Desktop MC14 from my laptop also running MC14. However, I can't find how to actually do this - is there documentation yet? DO I need to activate a plug-in, or just set-up the media server.

Sorry - my tech skills may not be as advanced as some of you guys here! :-\

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Beth

You need MC 14.0.11 (or higher).  Just install on both the client (to be used as a remote) and on the server (where your media is).

Run Library Server on the server.

Run MC on the client and choose File/Library/Search for Library Servers.  You can also add it permanently in Library Manager.

More info is in our Wiki.

When you connect, you'll be asked whether you want to play "Here" or "There".  Choose "There" to play from the server.

Thank you for the help...

unfortunately I keep getting the following...

"Media Center failed to load the library "Search for Library Servers" and will attempt to load the previously selected library."

This isn't solved either by using the IP address in the library manager as mentioned in another post...

Could this be a firewall issue? COuld this be a router issue...

That's as far as my limited tech skills can take me right now.

It could be either a firewall or a router problem.  You could try our wiki for help.

Thank you... yes, I have been looking at the wiki but have found nothing that really helps in this instance.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience of configuring Norton Internet Security (inc firewall) specifically for MC? I was using Kaspersky for a while and that didn't produce any problems with the Library server. I am not certain this is the problem but it is certainly on my list of potential problems.

I am running Vista 64-bit.

The curious thing is my laptop (remote) can find my music files on a shared network drive... but fails every time I try to connect the laptop to the library server running on the main computer. Laptop and desktop communicate in other ways across the network so they can obviouslt 'see' eath other.

Any thoughts gratefull received.

If you think it's your firewall, disconnect from the Internet and disable it (to test).

google should be helpful on questions like this.

Yay! Success.

I don't know how this succeeded as I used settings I had put in last night and had not changed them since.

I did disable the fire wall on both machines (did not change any configurations) and then restarted the firewall. Result = found and connected to media library from remote laptop!

Brilliant! Perfect - it works!

Jim

I've followed everything said so far, but still can't connect to the server.  Getlibrary responds correctly.  Creating an entry in the libary table then trying to load it I get a meesage saying The Server is a different version or not a library Server....  Both are running 14.0.11.  The only other difference i can think of is that the server's running on xp, client on vista

Any ideas?

Maybe you have an old server running?  MC13?  Vista and XP aren't a problem.

Jim

No I don't think that's the problem.  The other part of the error message said something about the Server not providing the version no

Maybe another program is running on that port.

All works fine, but does NOT ask where to play the content and it plays in on the remote....
What do I need to do?

The same thing happens to me, the client is able to connect to the server's library, but it does not ask me for playing locally or remotely?

Click on Playing Now - that is where you will see the "Play There"
Cheers!
