1.1.2 issues, reported by Rick.ca:
--------------------------------------
I had no problems installing, starting MC and fully configuring the plugin. MC crashed during the plugin "test." Following is the log (not much help, I suppose, because it's an "unhandled exception").

Code:

I restarted MC and tried using Send to PvdImport. As expected, MC crashed. Noticed this in the log:

General: RunProgram: Filename: C:Program FilesMedia Center 14PluginsPvdImport\PvdImportContextMenu.exe...

I fixed that and tried again, but it made no difference.

I tried running the plugin using a search expression—same result.

1.1.2 Issue reported by galahad1974
--------------------------------
It no longer locks up MC14.
But now whenever I do any operation it crashes. it loads and initializesthe pvd database correctly, but using test, send to or mass import crashes mc14. ive reduced the field config file to only 1 field "description"' to reduce complexity' to reduce complexity. what info can i give you?
---------------------------------
ive gone back and checked everything i can think of. the pvd database is pointing to the correct file, the test file is valid and exists in both databases, im only writing 1 field, which is also valid(tried writing a different field, nogo. )
It updates the message on the top of the screen but it says processed 0 of 1 files no (then the mane of the file.then i get the crash message.

o Are you on XP?
o Can you please write up the files in the PVD import folder?
o Both MC13 & 14 installed?
o Both running or only mc14 running when you do these tests?
o Did you uninstall before you installed v1.1.2?
o did you change the default install folder?

Hmm, I'm on XP and it works as before on my PC, both on mc13 and mc14...

Did you run 1.1.0 previously on Vista?

I don't think that's it—I'm running only XP, and my experience seems almost identical to galahad's.

o did you change the default install folder?

I often wonder when this is going to create a problem. The installation routine (in some ways, at least) assumes a default folder of ...\J River\Media Center 14\... and mine is without the "\J River." Should it not detect the installation folder from the existing MC installation? More importantly, is there any chance incorrect paths are being written to essential registry entries?

Could you try to reinstall mc14 and then reinstall 1.1.2 ?

I'm thinking that maybe the .tlb file of 1.1.1 somehow broke the jrmc automation interface...

I don't know what you guys are doing there but it works for me :) Five up Raldo!

Win7, MC14. Just uninstalled the earlier version of the plugin couple of days ago, reinstalled today the latest, success.

Did you reinstall MC14 after v1.1.1?

I'm just trying to find some common ground here...

No. All the rest stayed the same, MC14, PVD, Firebird, no reinstallation for any, except the plugin.

Now it works. On my last attempt, I don't think I had properly set the database location—it was either blank, or the default location (which doesn't exist on my system).

I've verified that if PvdImportConfiguration.xml does not contain a valid file reference for the database, the value becomes null, and then MC crashes if the plugin is started. The plugin catches an invalid file (i.e., one which is not a PVD database file), but not the case where there is no file specified. This is only going to cause a problem if there is no database in the default location, and the user fails to enter one. But the plugin should catch the error.

Unfortunately, I have no idea whether this situation might have been the cause of previous crashes (i.e., before MC 13 was uninstalled and before MC 14 was reinstalled). I'd like to think I didn't make the same mistake three times in a row, but it's possible. It's also possible the reinstallation did fix something, and I just goofed once. :-\

I was about to ask if galahad might have had the same issue, but I see he's found his own mysterious fix. ::)

Yes, that explains it. The change of directory from MC13->MC14 lead to an installation of default config files.

I'll look into what happens when the PVD DB can't be found. I thought that situation was caught, but there is obviously something going on...

Good job, guys!

I'm playing catch-up here, but I had no issues with 1.1.2 and MC 14. I still have MC13 installed.

Files in my plugin directory were:
Code: [Select]
Util.dll
PvdImport.dll
pvdimport.tlb
Interop.MediaCenter.dll
FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll
pvdimportconfiuration.xml
pvdimportcontextmenu.exe
softwareusermanual.txt
PVDimportfieldcnfig.xml

+ my custom config files.

Thanks for upgrading to 14 raldo :)

It's been a bit quiet for me with all things MC and PVD-related. I'll be finished my last set of uni exams ever (hopefully!) on August 1st :)

To pass the time (ie procrastinate) I've been streamlining metadata import to optimise for display in theater view. I just did another massive batch import and wanted to reiterate my appreciation here ;)

I also changed the audio information query in in my config file to show number of audio channels. This is useful if you have a surround sound setup.

Code: [Select]
Select ACODECS."value" || ', ' || AUDIO."channels" || ' Ch' || ', ' || AUDIO."bitrate" || ' Kbps'
From MOVIES inner join AUDIO On MOVIES."mid" = AUDIO."mid" inner join ACODECS on ACODECS."acid" = AUDIO."acid"
Where MOVIES."mid"=@id

You can also create an expression in MC to show you how many audio streams there are in the file:

Code: [Select]
ListCount([Audio Information])(change 'Audio Information' to whatever custom list field you put your audio info in)

I had movies with director commentaries and foreign language audio streams I never knew about!

EDIT: Does anyone know how to refer to the Stream name in the SQL query? This could be used to create a list of audio streams for any given movie...

EDIT 2: It might be worth looking at subtitles too... the ability to identify files with missing subtitles might be handy! But I have no idea how to reference subs either...

Hi,

Can someone please help me.

I have installed PVD 1.1.3

When I use PVD Import MC crashes after about 5 to 10 minutes.

Also when I first scanned my HD I included Drives that I no longer want to use but when I use PVD Import it still looks likeit is accesing those HDs how do I stop this.

Cheers

Could this be why?...

5. Known Issues
o If you select too many files (in the hundreds) in "Send To...", the PvdImportContextMenu.exe applications may get confused. Select fewer (50, maybe)!

PvdImport does not access anything other than the PVD database.
