MP101 Update
« on: August 21, 2009, 11:12:30 pm »

I was using Windows Server 2003 for quite a while and the MP101 music players were working great.  Now with Windows Server 2008, I seem to be having a problem I vaguely remember when I was using Vista as the server.  Only one song will play at a time before it simply stops.  It appears to be trying to play the next track but gets stuck.  Now as I said, I do recall this issue with Vista.  Are there any new findings with this issue?

Hi,

I've just had the same problems with my MP101, and found this article on how to update to a custom version of the firmware that fixes these issues with Vista/Windows 7. http://shazwanazizan.blogspot.com/2009/02/giving-back-to-society-netgear-mp101.html Following the instructions I upgraded and it works a treat.

Unfortunately now though I can't get the unit to work with the JR Media Server.  Searching for available servers lists the server but I get an error when attempting to connect.  Haven't done any further research to identify the problem yet, but it works fine with other media server software...

Thanks for the suggestion.  I have actually already sold two of my four MP101 units and have the remaining two listed online.  They go for almost as much as was paid for them.

If it definitely doesn't work with MC, then this really is of no benefit, right?  I had heard of this firmware several times a while back but was also using compatible operating systems since then for a short while.

What MC version are you trying? If it's quite recent version 14, it's possible the uPnP changes might have affected it if it was working before.

Yes, using MC14.0.94 (I think - at work at moment and can't check).

Server lists on the MP101 ok, but will not connect.  The media server log shows that an attempt to contact was made, but no further info.  I've disabled the firewall and virus gubbins, but still won't connect.  Sorry, bit vague, but don't have info to hand currently.  Can post later...

I just tried it with the latest build and it works fine for me. The settings are NetGear MP101 and I'm NOT specifying a port to use. If I were to specify a port to use the port box has a 3689 in it. If you choose to specify your own port it has to be > 1024.

Actually, I'm getting similar results using Windows Media Player on Windows 7 to access the library.

"The remote media library did not allow the connection."

Got it. The reason why it worked with the one here is that it had older firmware (1.3.7). When I updated it to the Vista compatible version it stopped working. It is the X_MS_MediaReceiverRegistrar unhandled service that caused the problem. I've made it so that's only enabled in WMC compat mode. Now the MP101 works fine. It'll be in the next build.
