MediaCenter 14 TV
« on: August 14, 2009, 07:08:29 pm »

Now I can not even get it to play TV.

There is not even a contact for support except this forum.

If I can not get any support I would like to receive a full refund to a product which I paid good money and can not even get it to work as stated.

Please post detailed information about the problem you are experiencing.

For TV audio, you need a decoder (software or hardware).  If you're using an outboard decoder in an amp, this article will help you:

Otherwise, explore installing CCCP for software decoding.

OK,

I have openned by version 12 and I get the TV with sound.

I have upgraqded to the latest version 14.5 and can get the TV but still now sound.

In the config area I have:

AVerMeida M780 PCIe
Sound - SB XFI Audio - Wave.

These are the same settings I am using for version 12 which get sound but not in 14.

There may be a little trial and error, but the Aver card works great.  I used it at home for a long time.

You need to try:

1) Picking the right audio output device (the Surround Sound article linked above discusses this)

2) Picking a working audio decoder (in TV device options, again described in the Surround Sound article)

These are the only two parts to television audio so if you have them right, I think you'll get sound.

It'd be best if the program could automatically choose working filters for you, but the world of Directshow filters is not a simple one.  If you're on Vista and using an outboard amplifier, I'd recommend the Microsoft decoder filters.  If you're using computer speakers, you'll probably want ffdshow as the audio decoder.

This forum is the only support available for MC.

Try Tools/Options/Playback/Video/Directshow.  Change the audio renderer.  The one you're using isn't working.

OK,

Here is what I have to pick form which I tried all of them:

1. SB X-Fi Audio (1000)
2. Default DirectrSound Device
3. Default WaveOut Device
4. DirectSound IDT Audio 1
5. DirectSound IDT Audio 2
6. DirectSound SB X-Fi Audio (1000)
7. IDT Audio 1
8. IDT Audio 2

Never had this much trouble to get sound on a program.

Again, you need to pick the right soundcard (the list you were looking at) and the right audio decoder.

You change the audio decoder in Options > Television > Devices > Configure > Audio Decoder

Default Directsound device should work. Otherwise choose you're cards name.
Then choose different codecs. Try the AC3 codec if nothing works. I have used AC3 most of the time, but there are others that should work too.

You have to understand is that this is not exactly a simple application. It's not iTunes. You have endless possibilities here, and that means you also might have to do some tweaking to make it work.

We provide a 30 day trial period.  We don't provide refunds.

If you'll be patient, we can probably get it working.

Before you paid, you could have used the 30 day trial to decide whether this was what you wanted.

That said, if you still want to make it work, we will help you.  Believe me, you can get better help on the forum than you can get on telephone.  For example, what I will ask you below can not easily be answered by you on the phone:

While you play a TV channel, right-click in the video window and choose DirectShow Fitlers > Copy graph info to clipboard, and paste the info here.

OK, let me do this.

Have a HDS failure last night and will have to redownload the program.  What do I do about the serial number.  I never received and type of email with this information. And then can give it another try since all files and been installed on a new harddrive.

From the restore page, you can ask our system to e-mail you your licenses.  License info is here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/buy_14.html

If you didn't see e-mail from buy-button@jriver.com,  it probably is in your junk folder.
