yeah if the card is old, most likely it is a 10Mbit card.. you'll need to purchase a 100Mbit compatible card ;)

Hi NY40Male,

good to hear you got it working!

Good choice on the router! I also have a Netgear router ( RT314) and it still rocks even if it is a bit older.

Yeah, if you get the 10 Mbit led the problem is your Network card

No need for traceroute...I won't be able to see you internal network. The thing to check would be a port scan to see if you have "holes" in your router setup, but you can do that directly by going to some of the networking/high speed sites .

In general the default router setup is ok, and you do not need to worry too much until you start forwarding ports.

Be sure to change the default router password!

Enjoy

Forgot to mention, that 10 Mbit is not a bottleneck for your Internet connection (likely <= 3 Mb) ... you need to go to 100Mb only of you need more speed in yout internal network.

On the other end, network cards are quite cheap, so it may still be worth it even if you do not stress the internal network very often

Internally The Media Server Runs Fine When I;m Doing Other Things On This Computer....I Bought The RP-614...Seems To Have Gotten Good Reviews (CNET) And My Computer Person Had Me Buying The Linksys At Compusa But The Netgear Was Only Around 30 Dollars More And The Reviews Said Was Easier Setup & Tech Support Was Much Better..(Probably Not 1/2 As Good As You People Tho)
Explain These 2 Statements A Little Further Tho Will Ya

1) No need for traceroute...I won't be able to see you internal network. The thing to check would be a port scan to see if you have "holes" in your router setup, but you can do that directly by going to some of the networking/high speed sites .

--------What High Speed Sites?

2) In general the default router setup is ok, and you do not need to worry too much until you start forwarding ports.

----------Forwarding Ports?

And Yes I Did Change The Password

Do Me One Favor Tho..See What My IP Is
If I Do A ipconfig /all - I Come Up With 192.168.0.2
That Doesnt Seem Right
But If I Go To The http:// Page (Setup Garbarge) It Gives Me a 24.xxx.xxx.xxx Number...
In 40 More Years Maybe I Will Figure It Out..I Doubt It Tho
Thanks For Yours & Everyone's Help On My Networking Troubles

--------What High Speed Sites?

there are quite a few. Here one I've used in the past

http://www.dslreports.com/secureme

----------Forwarding Ports?

That's what you do when you want some specific protocol to "pass through" the router and reach one of yout internal computer. For example if you want to connect to the Media server from work or somewhere else on the Internet.

But If I Go To The http:// Page (Setup Garbarge) It Gives Me a 24.xxx.xxx.xxx Number...
In 40 More Years Maybe I Will Figure It Out..I Doubt It Tho

Yes, ipconfig will only show you your local internal IP. You can point your browser to the router page to see you real ip, or there are many other ways

if you type this in a dos shell:

tracert www.mediajukebox.com

you will see the hops it takes to get to the mj site. The second number (after the 192.168 number ) is your IP address
