Problem to connect to a Twonky DLNA server on a ReadyNAS
« on: April 20, 2010, 11:48:38 am »

Hi JRiver,

I've just installed MC 15.0.27 and checking out DLNA features. Using a local library and streaming MP3 files to my 2 SoundBrige M1001 or to a Airport Express with dbpoweramp UPnP extensions works perfect.

But I would also like to use MC as a Control Point to access the music library via a DLNA Server on my NAS (ReadNAS DUO) and to push music content direct from the NAS to a DLNA renderer. Unfortunately I'm not able to connect to Twonky Media Server 4.4.17 neither to a ReadyDLNA (Netgear DLNA server) currently running on the NAS. I always receive the error message "There was a problem trying to load a library from the selected server".

The topic is already under discussion in LINN forums but the discussion stopped with any final conclusion end of February. What is the current status regarding this open issue?

It would be nice to know if there is any chance in the future to realize this configuration.

Regards
Blinky

Are you selecting the server from File/Library?

Do you have a link to the thread on Linn's forum?  Is it this one?

Hi Jim,

Yes, both server (Twonky, ReadyDLNA) are visible under File/Library->Connect to a DLNA Server. If I select a server MC responds after 3-4 seconds with the load error.

A description of exactly this behaviour could be found in the LINN forum

I have the same problem on a Qnap.
Small wonder as it runs Twonkey 4.4.17 too.
Library is 'visible', as soon as one switches to it, you get the load error

What types of files are in the DLNA library that won't load?

Thanks.

The library contain ca. 3500 files -> 95% MP3 (*.mp3 - CBR 320 kbps & VBR 256 kbps) and some AAC (*.m4a - 256kbps)

Using 15.0.28 / Twonky 4.4.17 (Linux)
Used to MC14 I was waiting for the Library to pop up in ‘Playing now’ or in File > Library but nothing happened.
I had to use ‘Connect to Library’ manually to connect to Twonky

Configured Twonky to scan directory Blues
This works, MC15 reports 1039 files, a mixture of WMAL and MP3

Added the Jazz directory, again a mixture of WMAL and MP3, no other file types.
Together they total to 2925 files.
Now I get the load error

Could you try just MP3?  Windows Media Lossless might be a problem.

Twonky cannot be configured to filter out certain types and as it is my NAS (backup) reorganizing the data is a disaster scenario for me. Sorry.

However this is probably a simple test you can easily duplicate.

I downloaded the Asset UPNP server (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/) and installed it on the same machine as MC15
I pointed the Asset to the NAS and let it start the scan.
At the same time I connected MC to Asset using DLNA.
I see the content of the Asset library and can play both MP3/WMAL using MC.
So everything worked fine just like using Twonky on a small directory only, until Asset has scanned between 1800-2000 songs. Then I get exactly the same error in MC.
To me it looks like a issue related to the number of tracks.
As a check I did the same using WMP12, it is able to display the entire content of both Twonky and Asset

I agree with Vincent! It seems that the problem is related to the amount and format of files. I did the following testings:

1. Loading a small libray  (12 files, MP3) from Twonky 4.4.17 -> no problem
2. Loading a library (120 files, 100 *.mp3 & 20 *.m4a) -> only the MP3 files are available im MC, AAC files were ignored
3. Loading the complete libray (3300 .mp3 and 200 .m4a files)
        -> error message "There was a problem trying to load a library from the selected server".
