MJ over a LAN.  How to share cover art?
« on: April 09, 2003, 05:29:58 am »

Hello all,

I have been using MJ and enjoying for a while.  I am trying to set up a central location (my "media server") that houses all my music and movies and well... media.  On my HTPC I have a drive mapped to this directory called music.  I have set MJ 8 up to use this mapped directory as its primary media directory.

I have also configured MJ to point to a shared cover art directory.  I haven't been able to figure out how to get this to link up properly.  It seems that some files have covers but most do not.

I am using a wireless router.  Is this too slow to send the volumes of cover art across for all my music?  Would a hard wire be much better?

What is the best way to set up a local "media server" using MJ on a LAN?

Not knowing your specifics, it's hard to say whether you're setting up the cover art directory properly. A typical wireless (802.11b) network should have plenty of bandwidth for sharing music files. Large video files (e.g. 80 MB to 200 MB episodes of your favorite sitcom, or huge DivX movies) will download much more slowly; if that's going to be your primary traffic, a wired 100 Mbps Ethernet would be much more appropriate.

Consider running Media Server on the central machine and then connecting to it with remote copies of Media Jukebox. You may find this to be preferable to using a drive mapping. However, cover art doesn't transfer when using Media Server...
