Expression Column Uses
« on: September 29, 2009, 07:50:45 am »

I've seen a small variety of specific uses for expression columns and they seem very useful, but to be honest they haven't struck me as a solution to anything that I'm trying to do. So, really, this post is just out of curiosity to see what some of the more advanced MC users use expression columns for. I'm really looking more at the end use more so than the expressions themselves (unless they're really key to understanding the purpose).
So... any sharers? -JB

- To flag files that meet certain criteria. After just click the column header to sort.
- To modify (custom format) display of fields, also based on certain criteria.
- Quick way to change the field display name in the column to whatever you choose without affecting the [Field] name itself.

for all my TV, I use a column that is a concatenation of series, season, and episode number to make display and sorting much cleaner. I can order by that column and get the correct list order instead of having to sort by 3 columns . That 1 column is formatted to display nicely also.
