What exactly happened to [Now Playing] ?
« on: October 21, 2009, 01:48:24 pm »

I don't really know when this happened, or if it was an intended change from your side, but at this point it appears that the Now Playing list no longer groups albums. In addition, no matter what columns I enable or disable in Now Playing, this is reset to default as soon as I restart MC.

I'm using the latest build, 14.0.84.

I've tried a few different things to see if I could figure this out, but to no avail.
- Tried removing the %appdata%\J River folder = Same problem.
- Tried removing the above folder, and deleting HKLU\JRiver and HKLM\JRiver from my registry = Same problem.
- Tried doing both of the above, and deleting the %programfiles%\J River folder, followed by a reinstall = Same problem.
- Tried doing a portable install = Same problem.

This is making using the program very frustrating, and I'd appreciate all the help I can get :)

Here's a screenshot showing how my "Now Playing" list looks, and as you can see there's neither album grouping nor any columns besides the default ones despite the fact that I disabled and enabled several different ones before restarting:

I can confirm that behaviour. Same problem here

Thanks for confirming, it's "good" to see I'm not the only one with this problem. At least now I can ignore my "nuke HDD from orbit & start fresh" instinct ;)

I also noticed this. However, I found that if I customized and saved the view via right clicking on the "Playing Now" item in the main (left side) navigation bar, my changes were properly saved and used the next time I started MC. If I customized the view via clicking on the "Playing Now" tab at the top of the view, the changes were lost upon restart.

Just tested that, and unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Column settings are still reset when I restart MC.

Me too.

Looks like I was wrong., after all -- my Now Playing view was reset when I started up MC this morning. It had been working across restarts the past few days; guess I was just lucky.

Looks like the columns problem was solved with the latest (.88) build, thanks for that :) Now as for the missing grouping of albums in the "Playing Now" list, is that intentional or another bug? If it is intentional, I'd love to see a way to revert to "the old way" of doing things. This plain list just doesn't do anything for me.

So...still no "playing now" album grouping in build .89. Would be great if someone from JR could post a response even if just to say that this is the way it's supposed to work now.

...and the same for .90, come on, how hard can it be to at least post even a short reply telling me if this is by design or a problem/bug? :(

EDIT: Since it appears that I'm unlikely to get any answers here anytime soon, I went ahead and installed the latest build in a virtual machine to ensure that this "problem" wasn't caused by something on my PC. Sure enough, no grouping there either. Any chance this feature can make a return, as I'm now suspecting this is by design?
