Feature request: Kiosk mode
« on: November 03, 2009, 02:45:22 pm »

This is maybe for MC15...?

Would it be possible (if there's any interest in this) to implement the Kiosk Mode, i.e. a tougher version of the Party Mode?

-- the only view available is Theater View
-- Theater View replaces Windows shell - i.e. there's no way of exiting Theater View and switching to Windows without entering a password
-- only library browsing and playback is allowed

What do you think?

Unless I've not got what you mean..
Have you tried [Ctrl]+[Esc] while in Theater View?

For the Windows side of things, consider installing Microsoft Windows Steady State and creating a Party User.
You can lock things down to your hearts content.  I guess you could get Theater View to start up automatically.
I'm not sure if there's a way within MC to stop you getting back to Standard View

I meant exactly opposite - there should be no way of exiting Theater View and getting to Windows
I know there's a way now and it's a too easy one.
<esc>-<esc> brings you back to windows. [ctrl]+[esc]
That's exactly what I would like to be hidden as far away as possible..

never heard of Windows Steady State.
maybe that's what i need - i'll look into it. Thanks!

in any case,  I think it will be a good feature to include - to make it impossible to exit the Theater View unless a password is entered in some not very obvious place.
