Hello,
I have a bootable Win XP install CD.
Problem: It doesn't boot from internal DVD/CD drive. Says "booting from CD" but doesn't say "press space to boot" as it should (tried to hit "space" anyway - didn't help). After that the system boots from hard drive.
Puzzling part: the same CD boots from a USB CD/DVD drive attached to the same system. the same CD boots in other PC's. Other bootable CD's do boot on the problem system.

Any idea?

I had that happen once too.

After several tries and alot of wracking my brain it turned out the screen resolution had that "Press any key too boot from CD-Rom" was below the bottom edge of the screen where I could not see it. Changing screen resolution and/or moving the screen image upwards before the next reboot fixed the problem.

Worth a shot, there's really not much else that could be the cause  . . . . . unless your bios is set not to look for the CD at boot-up.

Yes you did, and I tried the same as well . . . . but timing is everything

where did you get this cd?  Is it yours with a microsoft hologram or........

Yes it is a real one.
And if it wasn't, why there would be a difference between internal CD and a USB?

It is possible that the CD has a defect and that particular drive is having trouble using it as a boot disc.

I made a copy of it - still the same. I did see similar problems discussed elsewhere but noone came up with a reasonable explanation..

Is it a SATA Drive?  I've had similar issues with some CD Bootsectors (such as the UBCD and the Memtest86+ ISO) and SATA optical drives, especially my shiny Bluray drive.
