Ripping a HDCD
«

I bought by accident a HDCD. (Didn't read the package closely) Now I' trying to figure out how to rip it to a flac format. I have access to a external Blu-ray player. Does anybody have experience with this?
Thanks!

An "HDCD" rips as a normal redbook audio CD.
An "HD DVD" is another matter altogether.

You can use,
1. dbpoweramp to rip, decode and encode to 24 bit FLAC in one go, OR
2. EAC to rip as WAV+CUE and then CUETools to split and convert into per track 24 bit FLAC files.

I thought there was a thread here about this recently; maybe on HydrogenAudio.
Redbook is 16bit so they have dithered down to 16bit, and I think it's not even true 24bit when in HDCD mode (when the light would toggle on when using the old HDCD standalone players).
SACD can't be ripped; if ripped it's the redbook layer.
I've been making some DVD-A discs for demo at our club at homes that don't have PCs; mostly out of HDTracks and Linn 24/96 FLACs.
