Leadtek Dongle Gold - Timeout waiting for writer to start
« on: December 13, 2009, 06:05:03 pm »

Hi

New user here for this wonderful peace of software. Everything else works great except TV. I have a cheap DVB-T usb tuner called Leadtek Usb Dongle Gold and I'm running Windows 7 RTM x64. Channel scanning works but program listing and tuning don't. The stick works in ProgDvb (both x86 and x64) just fine.

This pops up on screen:
Timeout waiting for writer to start. Possible cause: no signal or faulty device.
I don't think it has anything to do with this http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=54722.0

Also I can't download podcasts from Yle Areena, but this has been recognized here. Hoping for a fix.

Thanks
kummis

Here's a log. Maybe it will tell you more than it did for me

Are the channels you tried to play encrypted?  MC can only play unencrypted channels.

Hiya

Thanks for the quick response Yaobing, but I solved it myself by accident :)
While playing around I noticed that MC gives wrong frequencies to my channels. We have 3 free streams here and none of them set right. I think it might be a regional thing. Modifying DVB Frequencies.xml did no good either, I had to add the channels myself. Only channel frequencies were wrong, other ids come out right.

I am glad you found the solution.

Modifying DVB Frequencies.xml did no good either, I had to add the channels myself.

We use frequencies in the frequency table file to start scanning for channels, and we even try a small variation up and down from the table frequencies.  Normally when a channel is found, the actual frequency is also discovered and that frequency will be recorded.  We have seen a few cases (in certain countries only) when scanning would not give us the actual frequency, and we are forced to use the table frequency.  Yours may have been such a case.  Fixing the frequencies in the frequency table file (DVB Frequencies.xml) will help if you rescan your channels.
