CES 2010 -- Brief Report and Pictures
« on: December 29, 2009, 06:41:13 pm »

Las Vegas, January.  CES.  The Consumer Electronics Show, where thousands of exhibitors try to talk hundreds of thousands of attendees out of their money.

I'm going next Thursday for a couple of days.  Anyone else?

Not me.  I'd love too some year, but I can't really easily justify the time (other than vacation and that's not the wife's idea of a good vacation).

I am going to NABShow again this year though, which should be fun.

More pictures (all pictures were taken with the new Google Nexus One phone)

Pictured above is a pair of 3D glasses, very stylish, from Sony.  In the gallery, you'll find a solar car, the Chevy Volt, a solar phone.  LG's booth was spectacular and a lot of pictures are of it.

[Excerpt from my e-mail to Matt follows]

There were several aisles at the back of one of the halls that had small manufacturers from China and Korea.  That was the most interesting.  A lot of raw innovation.

DLNA was definitely there, but it was often buried in the booth.  It's just another feature.  Many TV's had "applications" -- Netflix, Pandora, etc.

3D was also there, but I didn't sense a huge interest from attendees.  My reaction is still luke warm.

There were some big gaps on the show floor.  It looked like exhibitor count was down 10%.  A lot more furniture and unrelated exhibitors.

I think that you've brought yourself back into the game with your recent dlna/upnp improvements. Now people can organize their media with the software they like, and play it with any device they choose, without sacrificing the effort they put into making useful viewschemes, or locking themselves in to using only MC.

The only other thing I'd suggest to make yourselves the best in the field is to focus on making the performer store the best it can be, and integrating it with the users local library more.

Perhaps also some way of sharing your library more simply with other MC users (somthing that apple supported and then backtracked on) so that we really can share our music with friends and family without having to physically burn CDs.

I'd like to hear more about that if possible; either personal thoughts of if you get to play with some devices there. I'm not convinced I could use 3D glasses or the likes for long periods of time (as long as I watch TV these days) without getting headaches. But then again I didn't get to experience the new cool toys.

I think 3D is going to hit the desktop gaming market prior to TV....(Matt will be happy!)
