MJ lock up when no match in CDDB
« on: July 03, 2002, 08:59:15 am »

I cannot rip any CD if it is not found in the CDDB database.
If I insert a CD that is not in the CDDB database, I get a two
dialogs: the first one is hidden by the second one.  The second
one says "We couldn't find a match for this disc. Would you like
to submit a new disc?"  If I click on "Cancel" nothing happens,
the dialog stays up and I have to kill MJ from the Task Manager.
If I click "Submit New" there is a long (30 second) delay, then
I get the dialog for submitting a new CD to CDDB, except that
nothing works (none of the widgets respond to input) and I have
to kill MJ from the task manager again.

Incidentally, if I kill MJ from the task manager, I get the
"Analyzing Devices" dialog (even though MJ has closed) and it
won't go away, so I have to kill it too.

A second, but similar problem is that once MJ is done ripping a
CD, if I do not ack the "CD done" dialog, but instead eject the
CD and insert a new one, then I get a very bizarre problem: the
new CD is shown with two copies of every track, and I get a dialog
warning me that duplicate tracks have the same file name.  And
I can't close this dialog, so I have to kill MJ again.  Sometimes
I even have to reboot Windows to get everything cleaned up.

This is on a fairly clean install of Win2K.

What version of MJ?  If not 8.0.317, please update from our downloads page.

Yes, it is 8.0.317, the latest version.  This is new behavior
that just appeared in the last few releases.  It was not in
the beta versions of 8.

I turned off the "Enable CDDB on-line CD lookup" option in order
to rip the CDs that were not in the database.  Now I inserted a
new CD to rip, and right-clicked on the drive (under "CD, DVD, &
Handhelds" in the left pane) and selected "Update from CDDB" and
I get the "Connecting to the server" dialog.  The CDDB window pops
up for a second, but then goes away and MJ hangs. Pushing "Cancel"
does nothing.  So I have to kill MJ again.  When I start it again,
it has the CDDB info for that album.

Just for completeness, here's my system info:

Release 318 seems to have fixed some of the CDDB lockup problems, but with a CD that has no match in the database, MJ still locks up. I get the dialog that asks me if I want to submit a new entry to CDDB, but it doesn't matter if I click on "submit" or "cancel" -- nothing happens.  And just now I opened the "about Media Jukebox" dialog and it opened, but it won't close.  I had to use the Windows Task Manager to kill it.

Please find and fix this bug.  It happens consistently, and it drives me crazy because I have lots of CDs that are not in the CDDB database (yes, I listen to really obscure music).

MJ locked up again when CDDB gave me the "potential matches" dialog. Had to kill it using the task manager.  Then tried to start up MJ again, but it took 2 minutes to start!  Then noticed in the processes tab of the task manager that there were two copies of "Media Jukebox.e" running.  Even when MJ had no windows open, and nothing in the Applications tab of Task Manager.  This is in Win2K.  Killed both processes, started up MJ again and it started ok.

I have to say that MJ crashes about 30% of the time when I'm ripping albums.  Always with some dialog box that won't go away no matter what I do with it.  This is very frustrating, and it was definitely something that was introduced recently.
