I decided to give a Cowon S9 a try (instead of an iPod), but I'm confused about a few points.
When I first connected unit, the sync list in MC came up with a LOT of files "On Device" that appear to be files associated with the general functioning of the unit itself -- exe files, pdfs, dlls, infs, etc., as well as image files (jpg, gif, png, etc.) that are used as some sort of icons for general use of the unit. I always use the "delete files not in sync list" when I sync (just too hard to manage list otherwise), but I wanted to verify that just because these files are on the sync list does NOT mean that a sync will delete them (or have ANY effect on them.) They say "On Device" and not "Delete on sync" -- does this mean that they will not be effected by a sync? In other words, if files do not say "Delete on Sync," MC will ignore them, correct? I just want to make ABSOLUTELY sure that I don't accidentally delete something important.
I came from using iPods, which ONLY show the media on the device in the resulting MC list, so seeing a bunch of files that have nothing to do with media that I'm syncing (including image files that are not really "media") is confusing me a bit.
On this note, am I correct in assuming that MC will ONLY effect the folders defined under "Files and Paths" (i.e. Audio Path, Images Path, Video Path, etc.) when doing a sync, and leave ALL files alone that are not in these specific folders EVEN if they're included in the supported file types for the unit? For example, will it leave alone all the jpgs, gifs, pngs, etc. that are NOT in the "Images" path, and only deal with the folder defined as the Images folder?
I also noticed that the Cowon S9 uses different paths than the ones already on the unit -- i.e. it comes with a folder called "Pictures" instead of "Images," and it has a "Documents" folder that MC doesn't include. Am I supposed to change the MC list to match the existing folder names on the unit (i.e. should I change "Images" to "Pictures" in the MC handheld settings), or does this not matter -- i.e. will the MC sync somehow "tell" the unit what the correct paths are for these items?
Is MC's "Database Path" the folder it will use for "Documents"? The MC settings don't have anything set for "Database Path," so should I change this to "Documents\"?
Is there any reason to change the "supported types" if I know that I only have files in my MC library that the Cowon S9 supports?
Is there anything else I need to do (perhaps "should" do) before syncing the unit?
Thanks for any help with this,
Larry
