Out of curiosity is there a windows program that can act as a DLNA renderer?
Or can MC do this?

MC can be a DLNA Renderer.  Check the wiki for details.

I'm slightly confused about this.
If I understand correctly MC shows DLNA servers under the playing now branch in the tree?

If I look under playing now for a client MC there's nothing showing up?
Do I need to connect MC to the library of the server?  If so is it then just not using the library server protocol?

A DLNA Server will appear as a library under File/Library.  Check the wiki for details.

OK got it now thanks!

Audio is playing and showing up on the client :-)
Only problem here is Multi artist albums are split into individual artists, so suddenly it looks like there's a lot more albums than there are.

However there's no video view showing up?
The tick boxes are ticked to support video content on both the server and the client.
