I get this message when trying to view TV streams off my SiliconDust tuner box in MC. I want the audio downmixed to stereo (if there are other channels present) and output to analog. I get an option to "Configure" and have played around a bit with that but I'm not sure what I would pick for the DirectShow filters (or if that would even do anything for me). Right now it is set to Source: Automatic Other: JRiver Bitrate Monitor Filter. For the audio renderer, I've tried setting the analog explicitly or just using the default directsound device (which is what the analog is). Connection type is Analog connection. This does work automatically with WMC.

Edit: Also, is there a way to display the guide in grid format? Is there a way to set up programs to automatically record in theater view or must that be done in standard view?

Basically, the clicking Configure allows you to do two things:

1. If you use SPDIF passthrough, you should tell MC that by selecting Analog Connection for Connection Method.  This is not your case.

2. In your case you want to have audio decoded, so you must select a different audio decoder.  Do that from "Other Filters" drop-down list.  Do not select Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder.  That is the filter that caused the message to appear.  Try AC3Filter, FFDShow Audio Decoder, ArcSoft Audio Decoder, Cyberlink Audio Decoder, etc.

I spent half an hour messing with these "other filters" and as far as I can tell they make no difference. I still get the error message and no sound. I have yet to get any sound from JRiver from a TV stream. As I said there is no problem getting this to work in WMC so it should be possible.

Are you using the latest version?  If you have not already done so, try build 144.
