how to convert podcast file to standard audio file
« on: November 08, 2009, 01:51:10 pm »

I need help. MC's podcast logic is hurting my brain. :)

I have a few mp3s that I had MC download as podcasts. I want to change these files to behave like my standard audio files.

I copied the files out from their default podcast location, reimported, tagged, and renamed them. And I deleted the podcast feed that was used to download them.

MC is still treating them as podcasts. It downloads them onto my iPod as podcasts rather than standard audio files. Also, I cleaned out the Description and Comment fields but MC keeps puting this information back in.

My guess is that MC identifies these files as podcasts by seeing that the "Feed URL" and "Episode URL" fields are populated. I tried to clear these fields with MC but it won't let me edit them. I tried using a 3rd party mp3 tag editor but it did not see these fields.

So I am out of ideas.

Any suggestions on how to change a podcast file to a standard audio file would be appreciated.

bump

I have tried a bunch of 3rd party mp3 tag editors and none see or let me edit the MC URL fields.

Can anyone suggest an mp3 tag editor that will work?

Bump.  I, too am finding that I have a few files in MC15 that are categorized as Podcasts and want to re-categorize them as regular audio files as noted above.  Help!

Thx!

In the tag, you can edit the media type.

Maybe I have some funky media.  See here:

Most of the orphan files are really tracks from a CD, not a podcast.  I do not want them to show up as podcasts.  They are already categorized under Media Type as Audio; my guess is that the files are "tagged" with the feed/episode URL and thusly categorized.  I would assume changing those tags would prevent them from showing up in the downloaded podcast folder.  Is there no way to modify the feed/episode URL?

Thx!

Look at the tag called Media Sub Type.

Look at the tag called Media Sub Type.

Just changed the track Riverside to
Media Sub Type...Home Video
Media Type...Video

And this track still shows up under Downloaded Podcasts, just with a different thumbnail (film take-up reel).

How does a file get filtered in to the Downloaded Podcasts (what is the sort criteria)?

Any help?  Maybe I am missing something basic?

As always, thanks!

I'm pretty sure MC uses the URL tags to identify podcasts and unfortunately neither MC nor 3rd party tools let you edit these tags. The work around I found was to use a 3rd party tool to remove all tags, then reimport and retag with MC.

Since I expect MC15 to be all things to me(tee hee), then I submit this as a feature request: please allow MC15 to adjust/edit ALL tags.
