Ability to split .ape files?
« on: February 17, 2010, 08:38:58 am »

I have been downloading some albums that are a single .ape file with cue sheet.

Is there a way in MC14 to split the full album .ape file into individual tracks without resorting to doing it manually via the media editor?

Thanks

Import the CUE file in Media Center, and it'll add individual track entries.

They can be fed to the format converter.

You could also make APL files from the CUE (using Monkey's Audio) and play / import the APL files in most any software that supports APE files.  APL files are APE link files that link into the single big file and also contain per-track tags.

Thanks for the reply:

I tried to the import the .cue file associated with the .ape file a few times to get the individual tracks but it never seemed to work, I do the the same thing with .flac and .cue files and it works fine.

I have always been running more or less the most current version of MC14, just downloaded .144 last night so will give that a try.

Thanks

Open the cue file in notepad and see if it looks OK.  Maybe the locations of the files are wrong.

Open the cue file in Notepad and check the filename line. Perhaps the filename extension is not .ape.

The correct format is:
FILE "xyz.ape" WAVE
(Replace xyz with the actual name.)

Of course it is possible that the cue sheet is invalid in some other way. Does the APE file play as a single file?

(Jim posted while I was writing my reply. If the filename contains a path it is better to remove the path and just place the cue file in the same folder with the APE file.)
