We've recently added the ability to use DSP Studio when playing videos, television, and DVDs.

This allows room correction, equalization, channel mixing, VST plugins, etc. during video playback.  Just like audio playback, it allows mixing 2.0 sources to 5.1 or 7.1 and even outputting the sound as Dolby Digital (AC3) for your home theater receiver.

Currently the feature is disabled by default, so must be enabled in:
Options > General > Advanced > Features > Video DSP

We believe this feature is now ready for mainstream usage.  We would like to make it enabled by default.

However, we wanted to introduce the feature and give users a chance to offer feedback before making the change.

It's a great feature to add... but like with DSP under Audio, I'd prefer to have it off by default so the user can enable what bits they want.

Also is it worth moving the Video DSP from "Tools > Options > General > Advanced > Features > Video DSP" to "Tools > Options > Video" section like with Audio?

No.  Replay Gain requires pre-analysis of the files, which is not available for video.

Dynamic volume levelling might be a useful addition.  I've never been a big fan of it because you can hear it working.  However, it's available in a lot of receivers.  We actually had it a long time ago before switching to Replay Gain.

It's a bug right now that DSP Studio will indicate that it is performing volume levelling during video playback.  It is not.

The Creative, Asus, and Auzentech cards (others might, too) have smart volume leveling in the drivers that can be turned on. I only use it for Television and it seems to work fairly well.
