Netgear MP101 issues.
« on: March 14, 2010, 03:31:12 am »

Hi,

I'm desperate need of help here guys.  My MP101 has stopped working with MC14.  I can connect to the server and browse the structure, but i get "Item is currently unavailable" when attempting to playback any track.

I'm using the latest build (155) and can't playback anything on the unit.  It was all working with a previous build (version unknown unfortunately)  and I've no idea which build broke it as I've been (foolishly) installing the auto updates as they've become available.

My MP101 is using the Vista/W7 compatible firmware.
All file/folder permissions checked and reapplied.
Firewall switched off, no difference.

In settings I've got images and video disabled, and all except "filter international chars", "Include session ID", and "Replace Empty genre" unchecked.  I've tried various conversion settings with no success.

I can connect to server using WMP and playback ok.

There are lots of "requested type not found" messages in the log, don't know if its relevant...

Wait a few builds.  I think we may have broken it.

OK thanks.  I'm relieved it's not me that's faulty :)

I just tried .158 and it worked without trouble with 2 different mp101's. One with firmware version 1.37rng2 and the other 1.47rng2.
Are you wired or wireless?
What format music are you trying to play? (I left the default settings and just played mp3's).

I tried MP3 and WMA.  I'm on Windows 7, if that makes any difference.  I'll probably try a full uninstall/reinstall and report back...

Windows 7 (and vista) don't work right unless you have the "unofficial" firmware.

..which I have.  It's worked OK before under W7...

In fact, thinking about it this morning, I have upgraded my router firmware (Tomato) in the last month so it's possible that there is something going on there.  I'll investigate further when I get home...

Wired.

I can't see anything untoward with the router, but will try a reset to factory at some point.  Tonight's not a good time - my wife's got her head in the 'net for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for your help with this Bob.  If it's working for you then it's got to be something that's happened with my setup.

I do have lots of "server requested type not found" messages relating to MediaRenderer and InternetGatewayDevice.  Is that anything to be concerned about?

The MP101 is a finicky device. If your router has UPnP turned on you MAY have to turn it off. It seems that other UPnP traffic can confuse it.
