Help with poor DVD playback
« on: March 06, 2010, 10:33:06 am »

I'm using the Windows 7 video decoder with AC3 filter as the audio decoder.  I have a few issues that I have been tracking on two separate machines over a few months:

1. Audio does not work on some DVDs--primarily home movies that are simple stereo audio.  Using HDMI audio.
2. During playback, every 10 hours or so, the playback will "crash" requiring the user to restart the DVD.
3. During fast forwarding / rewinding, the playback will crash the same as #2 and say position = 0:00.
4. Upon jumping between chapters, it will crash from time to time.
5. When starting a disc, the menu or movie will show VERY slowly, 1fps, 2fps, for a second or up to 15 seconds.  Then it just snaps out of it and plays normally.

I can only think that AC3 filter is the cause of these issues.  Do other people have these issues.  A year back when I used XP with an older PowerDVD version, rewinding/fast forwarding was not only smoother (faster frame rate) but it was also rock solid.  I don't think I ever had an issue and could seek for minutes at a time.
