Question about portable install / back-up
« on: May 06, 2010, 06:22:13 pm »

For various reasons, I will soon be without a everyday computer. My plan is to backup my library to an external drive during this time, and keep a portable install of MC there with it. Then when I get a new computer later, I will install MC properly there, and then "restore" my library from the external drive.

There are some instructions in the wiki http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Portable_Drive_Installation but since they're quite old, I just thought I'd ask if anyone has anything special to caution me about before I proceed with this maneuver, or any tips in general.

I took your silence as a sign that I would have no problems. I didn't, but I didn't really follow the frankly somewhat mystifying intructions in the wiki. Anyway, here's a much mroe concrete question:

Is there no last.fm-plugin in the portable install?

COM-based plugins like last.fm are not supported with a portable install.

We're working to make all plugins not rely on COM, but it's a gradual migration.
