DLNA Profiles
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:30:27 pm »

Not sure if I'm missing somrthing but all the DLNA Servers I've been playing with while finding the right solution for "me" has had the ability to manually adjust profiles so your able to expecitly state 'whats' natively supported by your DLNA Renderer and what needs transcoding.

If you know that a particular Container & codecs is not supported you then tell it what to tanscode it to.

I see in Options --> Network --> DLNA server  that you can 'Add'

But not sure if thats adding a 'Server' that MC can pull files from or if thats how you can pick & customize the DLNA settings for your DLNA Renderer

The latter, you  are adding DLNA players/renderers .

So is it possible for a 'user' to create a profile? Or is this something the developement team must do?

You can create as many DLNA profiles as you like, one for each renderer you have if you like.

You just click ADD, select a pre-defined profile to start with and then modify it configure it up as you want.  Just change the "Display Name" so they aren't all called  "Generic DLNA"

Hope that helps.

OK, think I get this now.

But there does not appear to be a way of saying what the renderer supports and what needs to be converted.

Or do you rely on the renderer telling the MC Server what it can't support?

Is this  documented in the WiKi or anywhere else?

That's a good question, under Audio there is an option to convert unsupported formats, but as you point out there is no way of telling MC what formats ARE supported under this spcifi profile (unlike when setting up a handheld).  Maybe the DLNA device does report this, but I'm not sure if it does or not.

Hopefully one of the JR guys can answer this.
