SPDIF MP3
« on: May 23, 2010, 05:23:38 pm »

I need help.
I tried to update cccp and now everything is screwed and I dont know where to start to fix this.
I use Spdif passthrough and have installed CCCP and coreavc.
the sound on the movies is weird and my husbands mps music is not playing well at all.
he was playing the dualing banjos and the sound was not switching speakers like one banjo is supposed to play from the left and one is supposed to play from the right.

Can some kind person tell me where to begin, should I remove all codecs and clean the machine thenput them back and in which order.

It a drastic measure but if you want to start from a "clean" install (I presume you have your data backed up) in order:
1) Clean install of Windows (preferably Win7) and run the Windows update over and over till it is all up to date
2) Install latest version of your Video Card drivers (what Video Card to you have? what connection output are you using to your TV/Monitor? eg HDMI, DVI, VGA, Component, S-Video, Composite)
3) Install latest version of your Audio Card drivers (what Audio Card to you have? what connection output are you using to your Receiver? eg HDMI, Analog, S/PDIF)
4) Install latest version of MC and restore you library & files (you should now be able to play Audio files just fine as you don't need filters to do this)
5) Install CCCP (you should now be able to play almost all Video files)
6) Take a snapshot of this working system so you have a "last good" backup you can restore from
7) Tweak your settings, add specific filters, other application (TV tuners etc etc).  Each time you are happy with the results then update you "last good" backup.

Your setup is probably not that bad it requires a clean install but it is very hard to work it out what to fix without being there, so another option is that some kind MC'er may live around the corner and for a few beers may be able to have a look see.

Thank you for your help.
I have finished all that and now I need to know, with using passthrough. Should I use DSP 5.1 passthrough to play hubbies mp3??

Sorry about all this but there is so much to work out you need to be an audio technician.

Your system should be happily playing your MP3's as 2ch Stereo from MC over S/PDIF to your (I assume) Receiver.  You only need the DSP if you then want to change this format is some way such as:
- Output format to Upmix to 5.1
- Change temp/pitch
- etc etc

If you are having problems I'd uncheck all of these options, make sure your 2ch Stereo is working then one by one turn on the options you want till you see where the problem is.
