Media Center as bg service?
« on: May 26, 2010, 01:25:55 am »

Hi

I love the new feature with DNLA to my Sony Bravia TV (Sony KDL-40EX500)

However i'm not happy that my computer has to stay open for everyone, so it is possible to run it as a background service autostart when boot?

I requested this for the TV recording engine, but it seems unlikely that it will happen: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=57620.0

You can start Media Server on Windows startup.  It's set in Tools/Options/Startup.

I know it's not a Windows service, but it should do what you want.

We require Media Server to support servers, television recording, DLNA, and other background tasks.  It is not a service.

I believe there are third-party tools that allow running any application as a service.  You could also create a Media Server user account or run it under your user account but lock the account.

Hi InoculateIT (what a bad name!),

I can't play dlna video on my kdl Sony TV and not the only one.
Didn't you never had problems to do that?
I've got the 32v5500 model...

It works on my Sony Bravia KDL-40EX500 just not Video :(

However it works on WMP 11 & 12, so its not a TV bug ;)
